Our South West Provider Collaborative

We’re made up of a number of NHS organisations, independent sector providers, and a community interest company. In working together, we’re able to pool our specialist knowledge and resources. Together, we want to improve the mental health support available to people living all over the South West.

One of the key aims in setting up our SWPC was to make sure that people needing specialised mental health care could receive treatment closer to home, allowing their family and friends to support their recovery.

Prior to assuming responsibility for commissioning from NHS England in October 2020, 50% of patients with medium and low secure mental health care needs had to travel outside of the region for treatment. By sharing beds and pooling our resources, we've been able to reduce that figure to 15%.

Our commissioning responsibilities have since grown, and as well as Adult Secure Services, we’re now accountable for specialised Adult Eating Disorder Services and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Tier 4 Services (CAMHS).

My favourite place to visit on my days off is probably the smaller towns in Cornwall, the coves and the beaches. I spend my days off with my children and our animals.
