Diabetes Dietitian

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Dietitian to develop their skills in the rewarding speciality of diabetes, alongside a small general community caseload.

This is a great time to join our service as our Dietetic teams located in the community and acute sites integrate to provide more seamless diabetes provision. In addition, our acute based team are expanding to improve access to diabetes technology for people with diabetes to enable them to better manage their condition.

Primarily, you will help provide support to adults living with Diabetes across Somerset by delivering outpatient clinics and structured education sessions in various locations, as well as working one day a week more closely with the acute based MDT. For anyone wishing to work full time, the remainder of the post will be made up by a general community clinic one day per week.

Once in post we will support you to develop specialist skills in group education, diabetes care and advanced communication, as part of a friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team. You will be mainly working with people with type 1 and 2 diabetes in dietetic only clinics and through group education, however there may be opportunities to input into MDT clinics for example antenatal and transition services.

We are looking for someone to join our team for 37.5 hours per week, with the majority of this spent in Diabetes Intermediate care/Community. We warmly welcome an informal discussion prior to applying.

Main duties of the job

As a Dietitian in the Diabetes service, you will work with patients from diagnosis through treatment and long term management of their condition.

You will work within the dedicated and supportive MDT of:

  • Specialist Dietitians
  • Diabetes Specialist Nurses
  • Consultant Diabetologists
  • Diabetes Support Workers
  • Diabetes Specialist Podiatrists
  • Research Team
  • Clerical Staff

To contribute to the provision of the Dietetic service for patients living with diabetes.

This will involve providing specialist dietetic patient care in dietetic led clinics, group education and intervention sessions through face to face contact, digital platforms and telephone contact. As the Diabetes Intermediate Care team is a Somerset wide service, you will be required to work in locations across Somerset, as well as at Musgrove Park Hospital, and this role will also involve some home working.

The general Community clinic may be face to face in a location across Somerset, via telephone or a digital platform.

You will be supported by very experienced Senior Diabetes Dietitians, the highly experienced wider MDT and other members of the Dietetic team.
