Job summary

32 hours per week. An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in Coteheles brand new, purpose built 10 bedded Unit in Plymouth. Cotehele is a Functional Mental Health Unit for predominantly over 65s presenting physical challenges as well as mental health. Applications are welcomed from newly qualified as well as experienced staff with a desire to work with the age group. Recent changes have incorporated the availability of a Home Treatment Team to help facilitate smooth discharge and provide support before admission. The Unit is in the process of evolving to incorporate an ageless approach. If you would like to be considered as part of the team at this exciting time, then this job might well be for you.

All candidates must be computer literate and have a firm understanding of information governance. If you think you have the right skills to offer us at this exciting time then we would very much like to hear from you. You will need to be able to work a rotating shift pattern to cover the ward 24 hour 7 day a week.

This post requires the post holder to be able to undertake all statutory and mandatory training including physical intervention training.

You will receive enhanced payments for night and weekend work, access to a pension scheme and CPD days each year We will also support and facilitate your development in this role through supervision and a personal development plan tailored to your needs and experience.

Main duties of the job

Cotehele is a 10 bedded functional assessment unit providing care for predominantly over 65s who are in an acute stage of their mental illness.

Cotehele works within an MDT model with nursing staff/HCAs/OTs/Physios and Doctors and a psychologist.

Band 5 colleagues are a crucial part of the workforce over the 24 hour period.

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, conducting robust risk assessments and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

The post holders will have a passion for the working with functional mental health as well as working with over 65s. Patients will be in an acute phase of their mental illness, but may also have physical care needs as well as personal care needs. The skill of taking physical observations will be necessary and the ability to take bloods and ECGs desirable. Previous experience is preferable however, this post is also suitable for people who are recently qualified.

The post holder is required to supervise staff, be in charge of shifts and be able to teach qualified and unqualified staff, including basic and / or post basic students, participate and lead medication rounds.

The post holder will at all times work within the NMC code of conduct.

Utilise nursing skills to assess, plan and implement and deliver care to patients who are in an acute phase of their illness

Organise the provision of care and act as Named Nurse/Associate Nurse for a specified group of patients.
