An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant to join the multidisciplinary team on Montpellier unit on a permanent basis.
Montpellier is a 12 bedded male recovery unit within Wotton Lawn Hospital. The unit serves the population within Gloucestershire and works closely with NHS England. The successful applicant will join a friendly, well established service whom lead upon the recovery focused agenda within the unit.
The successful candidate will hold a keen interest in improving the lives of individuals whom experience mental ill health and experience of working within a mental health/ residential setting is essential. Main duties of the job
- To assist trained nurses in the provision of nursing care including health promotion as detailed in individual care plans.
- Participate in the performing of appropriate tasks necessary to meet the needs of the unit.
- Assist service users outside the ward environment to establish and maintain social contacts.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of social, sports and recreational activities for ward patients and other suggestions outlined in Star Wards.
- To work collaboratively with staff from Hotel Services and other departments to ensure that the ward environment is clean, tidy and welcoming.

Essential
- To have successfully completed a ward-based training programme 'HCA Training Programme' or other work-based programme equivalent level to Level 3 NVQ
- Significant experience in a mental health inpatient setting (NHS or private provider), Crisis Home Treatment Team which demonstrates work and competencies at NVQ level 3 or equivalent
- Demonstrate adherence to Trust policies and prescribed nursing care plans
- Understanding of how mental illness has an impact on motivation, social skills and Activities of Daily Living
- Awareness of risk procedures and be able to interpret, follow Section 17 Leave and care plans to a highly competent standard
- Be able to work unsupervised for periods away from the ward for up to 4 hours
- Adult Basic Life Support by completing the MERT training
- De-escalation of Aggression skills using the ACT Model of De-escalation or Conflict Resolution Training
- Knowledge of and ability to follow locally agreed standards for the Essence of Care
- Be able to utilise specialist equipment as required e.g. Blood Glucose Monitoring, Urine Analysis
- Understanding of the basic principles of Infection Control
- Understand the basic principles of running an informal group
- Be able to complete all Mandatory and Statutory training identified for the post
