Due to an expansion of our Community Sentence Treatment Requirement (CSTR) Team within Gloucestershire, we are looking for highly motivated individual to deliver Mental Health Treatment Requirements as part of a Community Order or suspended sentence order made by our local courts.We aim to provide the best possible outcome for those individuals who are undergoing proceedings within the Criminal Justice System. This initiative is funded by NHS England, Gloucestershire CCG and the Office of the Police Crime Commissioner Gloucestershire as part of the long term reducing reoffending strategy.

The post holder will work directly with service users collaboratively formulating their difficulties in an integrative way, taking added complexities including dual diagnosis, social & economic stressors, attachment/interpersonal difficulties & complex trauma experiences into account.

Main duties of the job

You will use evidence-based interventions in a trauma informed & user-led way in order to help clients to live more meaningfully within the community and to reduce the likelihood of reoffending. Interventions are integrative, attachment/formulation-led, developed collaboratively.

Work will be across several sites within Gloucestershire and with multiple agencies including health and criminal justice colleagues.

Working alongside the Gloucestershire Liaison & Diversion Service for the provision of assessment of health needs of individuals within the offender pathway; you be will provide specialist psychological assessment and make recommendations to the Courts.

Maintaining a professional relationship with our local Magistrates Court, Crown Court, Probation Services and drug & alcohol services.

Teaching, training, consultation and the supervision of Assistant Psychologists and Doctorate Trainees is integral to the role.

There will be opportunity for role & service development, service user involvement & audit/service evaluation.

Clinical supervision will be provided (at least) monthly by a Clinical Psychologist and EMDR Consultant.

The team supports complex service users and as such excellent clinical, interpersonal, team working and risk assessment skills are required.

Desirable

  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis. Experience of working with offenders.
  • Experience of Care Coordination or equivalent role with people with complex psychological needs
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues, both within and outside the NHS.
  • Evidence of maintaining effective communication when there are barriers to understanding and in circumstances where hostility, manipulation, Conflict and antagonism are present.

Experience

  • Experience of maintaining working relationships and a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse, and the threat of physical aggression.

Desirable

  • Ability to adapt style and/or assessment and intervention strategies to meet the challenges of complex clients / situations.
  • Is in process of acquiring clinical experience of an increasingly specialist nature
