  • Introduction - Wellesley Hospital is a secure unit in the South West region. It is part of the South West Provider Collaborative for secure services. All patients are detained under the Mental health Act. Wellesley Hospital has six wards: 1 male medium secure; 2 male low secure; 1 female medium secure; 1 female low secure; and 1 LD&A, and a further soon to be opened medium secure ward for transferred prisoners.    Wellesley Hospital is situated on the Somerset/Devon border, ideally placed for rural living with proximity to the coast and several areas of outstanding natural beauty but also close enough to the urban centres of Taunton, Exeter and Bristol which provide national rail services to London. There are several good public and independent primary and secondary schools nearby. 
    Your responsibilities will include:
    • Caseload of up to 16-20 patients with weekly Consultant supervision. 
    • Participation in individual care reviews, CPA meetings, medicolegal meetings, discharge planning meetings, MDT handover, ward community meetings, professionals meetings and any other clinical or business meetings linked to the service and/or patient care.
    • Management of complex cases.
    • Role in assessment of referrals/admissions.
    • Care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.
    • Liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies.
    • Mental Health Act implementation and liaison with Ministry of Justice (depending on S12 approval and under supervision of consultant).
    • Multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and partnership working.
    • To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients including ensuring all NHSE contractual obligations are met (e.g. timely review of assessments etc in line with KPIs).
    • To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively.
    The post holder will be required to be on-call for the hospital as per the service needs. 
    The post holder will be expected to help with cover for other medical colleagues during leave and other absences and this is reciprocated.
    To be successful as a Associate Specialist, you'll need:
    • Full GMC registration
    • Experience working in psychiatry within multi-disciplinary teams
    • To be in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
    • To have had an appraisal/RITA within the last year
    • At least 3 years’ experience in Psychiatry
    • MRCPsych (desirable)
    • Section 12 (2) approval (desirable)
    • AC status (desirable)
