Deputy Ward Manager

Job summary

Belvedere Ward has a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager post available which is based in Exeter on our Older Adult Mental Health Ward specialising in care for patients with an organic illness.

We are looking for an enthusiastic health care professional with an interest in working with older adults to join our team in supporting and delivering high quality inpatient care

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced practitioner with some experience of supervision and leadership to allow you to support the team to further develop. This role does include shift working, including weekends and occasional night shifts.

You will be responsible for assisting the Ward Manager in maintaining and monitoring professional standards, to promote change and develop nursing practice. You will deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence to ensure that the ward delivers high standards of nursing to care to all patients, in accordance with standards and policies.

Main duties of the job

- To assist the Ward Manager in maintaining standards of care, promoting change and developing nursing practice.

- To deputise for the Manager in their absence.

- To have clinical expertise in delivering services to people with an organic illness.

- To work to the NMC and NICE Guidelines and Standards

- To demonstrate a working knowledge of legal requirements and other relevant legislation.

- To demonstrate effective compassionate leadership.

- To provide supervision and appraisal and be available to support and guide junior colleagues and students.

- To be responsible for the provision and maintenance of effective therapeutic relationships to work collaboratively with others within the service and outside organisations.

- To have a working knowledge of the Trust's Performance Indicators and how these equate to the team.

- To lead and manage key areas of delegated work as required.

  • - A professional Mental Health Qualification( RMN)
  • - Evidence of Post Registration Education
  • - Up to date knowledge of Older Peoples Mental Health / Cognitive illness and Frailty.
  • - Mentoring training

Desirable

  • - Experience of managing staff
  • - Clinical supervision and mentoring experience
  • - Knowledge of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
  • - Understanding of Recovery principles and Person Centred Care
  • - Teaching or coaching qualification
  • - Understanding of Compassionate Leadership

  • - Substantial post registration experience
  • - Experience as a band 5 in an inpatient setting
  • - Experience of working within a MDT
