Assistant Psychologist
Job summary
Devon Partnership NHS Trust in association with Co lab Exeter are looking to appoint two enthusiastic and creative Assistant Psychologists for a new homelessness and substance based project.
STAR Exeter (System Treatment and Recovery)
The STAR service has been awarded funding by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities to bring together a one team approach to providing wrap around support and engagement to people rough sleeping, or in temporary accommodation, who are experiencing substance misuse challenges but are not yet engaged with relevant services.
The one team will include a project co-ordinator, team leader, specialist enablement workers (SEW), psychologist or psychological therapist, assistant psychologist, GP, data analyst and administrators. The whole team will work using a MEAM, trauma informed approach.
The service is based at Co Lab in Exeter which is a multi-agency well-being hub that enables people and organisations to work together, creating conditions for people to lead their best lives and for organisations to achieve their greatest impact and value.
This provides the opportunity to work alongside, and learn from, third sector expertise in addition to statutory services also based at Co Lab. This includes the Trusts homelessness team. As a collaborative development, the post holders can benefit from training and support both within the Co Lab provisional and the trust.
Main duties of the job
With the direction of the supervising psychologist the post holders would be required to support the development of psychologically informed practice and trauma informed psychological awareness, through direct practice, involvement in training events and supporting staff wellbeing. They would also be involved in evaluation, provide psychological leadership and be part of wider systemic and organisational thinking.
STAR aims to:
- Increase capacity in system to offer intensive intervention when an individual has a treatable moment

- Strengthening an alliance of organisations with a future vision
- Develop existing trust across partners
- Have realistic expectations
- Align with other programmes eg. RSI /Flexible assertive support team (FAST)/One Mental Health team and others
This service also relates to the Trusts strategic vision for the Community Service Framework, in ensuring that psychologically informed practice is supported and co constructed with community based organisations and with services users. Services to support homelessness is a main objective of the NHS ten year plan.
The trust also supports Psychological Informed Environments (PIE) which is already a well-established framework in the homeless service.
The posts would be based within the Trusts Homelessness Team which is located at Co Lab. Clinical supervision and line management would be provided by a senior Clinical Psychologists.
